Felixstowe Labour Party - Press Release
Felixstowe Coach Service Threat
Felixstowe Labour Councillor Michael Sharman has written to National Express coaches asking for assurances about their service from Felixstowe. He believes that National Express will be under pressure to reduce services following the Tory-led Government's decision to end the Coach Concessionary Travel scheme.
The scheme provides half price coach travel for people over sixty and people with disabilities, and is due to be cut by the Government at the end of October.
There are currently two return services per day from Felixstowe to London, where many passengers make connections with other parts of the country.
Councillor Michael Sharman said, "I know many people over sixty who use the Felixstowe service as an inexpensive and convenient way to keep in touch with family and friends.
"The fare rises will mean fewer passengers and perhaps less coaches. My fear is that eventually the service from Felixstowe will be reduced or even cut altogether. Even if the Felixstowe service is continued, there are likely to be less convenient inter-connecting services from London to other places.
"This is yet another Tory-led Government cut affecting some of the least well off people in the town. It will make it more difficult for older people and those with disabilities to keep in touch with their friends and families."
